Chapter 5: Backstory

Zeting ripped his bread in half and gave one half to the man. “So who are you and what did you do to end up here?” Zeting asked.

Although Zeting had gained some respect from the man, it is still not enough from stopping the outlaw’s ignorance.

“If you are god or a god, you should know everything, so why do you even ask me?” grunted the man while he munched on the bread.

Zeting said with a mild smile: “Right now, my powers are stored as my physical body, using them poses a great threat to my physical wellbeing and the only way to get it back is through more followers.”

The man sighed, took a bite out of the bread and looked at Zeting. The man looked at the self-proclaimed “god” in front of him. Unlike anyone he had ever previously seen before, he was quite tall and strong, the most important thing was the aura he radiates, confidence and strength could be felt just by being in his presence. His eyes shined with knowledge.

Then he started to reveal his past:

My name is Chester, and I was a bandit leader. Back then we would storm villages and get whatever we wanted. We had about three hundred people under my command and they gave me the nickname “king” due to how formidable our group was. But everything went down when a real king, King Aldric III sent one of his messengers to me telling me to raid a nearby village.

Just by mentioning the name of King Aldric III, his face turned red and veins were visible on his bald head, he raised one of his legs and stomped onto the dead rat imagining if it was the king. He stayed silent for a few seconds to calm down, then continues with his story.

He even promised me that if I completed the job, he would turn our group into a legitimate army. However, he specified one thing that I must obtain: A piece of stone that had triangular carvings in it. It’s not the hardest thing in the world so like any normal person, I accepted the offer. I led my men to the village, robbed them of all their valuables and found the stone at a nearby spring. Then I went to the king for my reward. Little did I know that the stone I was ordered to steal belonged to the king of this stupid country. It turns out that the king of this country wanted that piece of trash for some reason and would trade countless treasure for it.

The two kings argued for ages until they finally came to an agreement. The king of this stupid country wanted Aldric to send ME and the stone to him so he could punish me and get what he wanted, in return, he would give Aldric 3 towns.

Furious, I ordered my men to flee the country but was overpowered by Aldric’s army, so I tried striking the stone with a hammer, but it would not break no matter how hard I hit it. Knowing that, I hid it in a bush and from what I know they still haven’t found it yet.

I still don’t understand why those leaders of entire countries are arguing.

The sound of the door opening brought the two back to the presence as the three guards from last time entered again. Without saying anything, they grabbed the bandit leader and dragged him out of the cell.

When the door closed, Zeting picked up his bottle and gave it a few taps. The bottle suddenly shined blue. Zeting looked into the bottle in attempt to see into the future again but all he could see was Chester being dragged along the streets, anything after that seemed impossible to predict and the bottle would turn back into its original form.

“Guess the power of me alone is not enough.” Zeting said to himself as he went back to bed.

The three guards chained Chester and hanged a sign in front of his chest which said: “Chester the ‘Bandit King’, guilty of raiding villages and innocent merchants, Execution will commence tomorrow by guillotine”.

The guards dragged the man into a public square. “You will spend the rest of your life here, until tomorrow when you will be beheaded!” one guard said. The words of insults pierced Chester’s heart. For a whole day this outlaw who was strong as a bear spent in the public square. As the sky fades from bright blue into the color of the deep sea and turning completely dark, his emotions shifted from ignorance to fear until suffocating in desperation.

“Hey Zeting,” he muttered, “Will I be sent to Zetong if I die?”, “Will Zeting lose all his powers by losing his only follower?” Questions like those made this “fearless” bandit leader that once led hundreds of people scared for the first time.
